What Goes Around is a powerful yet simple collaborative made up of three vital forces working in harmony: design showrooms - partners in sustainable sourcing. They share discontinued, overstock, and excess textiles that might otherwise be discarded. Community partners - local heroes driving distribution and reuse to keep material circulating instead of piling up in landfills. What Goes Around Collective - the connective tissue binding these efforts, coordinating materials, logistics, and purpose to amplify environmental impact. Together this three part mod multiplies our effectiveness, enabling us to redirect a meaningful volume of textiles from waste streams toward creative, responsible reuse and redistribution.
Around 92M tons of textile waste are generated annually worldwide – and this figure could swore to 134M by 2030 if current trends continue.
Every year, over 17M tons of textile waste are generated in the US alone – 85% of which ends up in landfills or incinerators.
A mere 15% of US textiles are reused or recycled – the other 85% become landfill waste.
Fast fashion contributes up to 10% of global CO2 emissions and 20% of water pollution, plus staggering water consumption – around 2700 per cotton T-shirt
Whether you’re a designer showroom, a nonprofit, or a community organizer, teacher, artist, designer or student – there’s a role for you. Every contribution helps complete the cycle: rescuing textiles, reimagining their life, improving that together we can keep tons of fabric – and their stories – out of the trash.
Let’s close the loop. Because in this collective, everyone plays a part – and every part matters.
